About Us

A family eating lunch at a table outside a motorhome

Since launching in 2001, Practical Motorhome has become the top destination for motorhome advice and insight.

We’re the most exciting motorhome magazine in the UK, full of new and used ‘van reviews, touring inspiration, DIY and maintenance projects, buying guides, and much more. We’re here to help you get the most from your ‘van, and to experience the best possible tours.

Our website relaunched in 2014, and since then, has been providing our readers with the brand’s expertise, advice and independent reviews, all in one place and at the click of a button.

We also conduct numerous events throughout the year – this ranges from the Practical Motorhome Awards, where our in-house experts identify the best models on the market across a wide range of categories, to the Owner Satisfaction Awards, where our readers vote to tell us how they get on with the different dealers and manufacturers that are out there.

Peter is Reviews Editor of both Practical Motorhome and Practical Caravan, a magazine he first worked on in the 1990s before going away for 20 years to work in business journalism and magazine start-ups, one of which won a national award. Although he enjoyed that, and writing the odd piece for national newspapers, he always knew he wanted to come back. Peter is responsible for reporting on all the new models that make it to dealer forecourts each season, and giving his judgement in online and magazine reviews

Why trust us?

Buying a motorhome will involve spending a substantial amount of money, so you’re going to want to know you’re making as informed a decision as possible before parting with your cash.

That’s where the experts at Practical Motorhome come in. We’ve spent more than 20 years helping you buy with confidence, with our audience knowing we see, touch and experience everything we write about.

We regularly test and review the latest ‘vans on the market, which puts us in an authoritative position that allows us to compile our buying guides or pick the winners of the Practical Motorhome Awards.

There are now more than 800 reviews on our website for you to read. When we look at a motorhome, we’re always objective. We don’t just highlight the pros – instead we offer good honest advice, drawing attention to the cons too.

While we solely create the majority of our content, sometimes we work with external partners to produce content that we think our readers will find useful. This can either be provided by the partner, or alternatively, they support us in creating it but we maintain editorial independence. We always make sure we label this content clearly, so you know who funded it and how it was created – you can find out more about this on our Content Funding page.

How do we pick the motorhomes we review?

To start, we take a look at the latest motorhomes and layouts before selecting the models we believe warrant a closer look. We then consider how they compare to similar ‘vans on the market.

After this, we conduct a full live-in test, where we try the motorhome out in real-world circumstances. The length of this varies from a shorter weekend trip to a longer tour around the UK or abroad.

Who reviews our motorhomes?

Our testers are all experienced motorhome users and we’re aware of what it is that makes a good ‘van, whether this is from the perspective of a newcomer or a seasoned tourer.

This means our reviewers can look at the big picture when testing out a motorhome. We look at everything, from its layout and build quality to how it fares in different conditions and the practicalities of staying in it.

Putting this together allows us to score each motorhome out of five, so when we’re writing our reviews, we can simplify the process of working out just how good a ‘van it actually is.
